Exciting Historic Moments of the
LINCS Music Program
Over the years, the LINCS Music Program has provided exciting opportunities outside the standard curriculum for students to further explore and excel in music.
LINCS World Drumming Ensemble This ensemble of 5th grade students is a great source of pride for LINCS Charter School. Performing African and Latin styles, they have become in demand across the area with performances including Whitewater "Relay for Life", Whitewater Arts Festival, Kiwanis, and the Whitewater Women's Federation, as well as many school events. In 2012 they performed for a school in Fort Atkinson and a state educators convention.
Capitol Concerts LINCS 4th and 5th grades performed concerts at the Wisconsin State Capitol in spring of 2002 and 2007 as part of the national "Music in Our Schools Month" celebration
Choir Performance at Capitol Tree Lighting!
LINCS 5th Grade Choir was invited by Gov. Doyle to perform at the Capitol Tree Lighting Ceremony on Dec. 5, 2008.
Wisconsin Listening Project The Wisconsin Music Educators Association State Listening Project allows teams of 5th and 6th grade students to compete in their knowledge of music from 6 historical periods and world music. Lincoln 5th grade listening teams have participated at regional and state levels 9 times, each time receiving a superior rating at state and 5 of those years receiving top score in the state.
Gemini LINCS 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students have performed in 2006, 2007, 2009-11 and will again in 2012 as the back-up singers for the nationally known singing duo, Gemini. Performances take place at Irvin L. Young Auditorium, on the campus of UW-Whitewater.
All-State Children's Choir Over the past 14 years 91 LINCS 5th grade choir students have performed in the Wisconsin Choral Directors Association All-State Children's Choir. These performances bring together the top childrens voices from across the state where they perform under the direction of nationally known conductors.
Wisconsin State Music Conference In October, 2007, the Lincoln 5th grades were invited to perform at the Wisconsin Music Educators Association legislative breakfast held at their state conference in Madison. In attendance were Lt. Gov. Lawton, state legislators, music educators and National Music Educators' president, Dr. Lynn Brinkmeyer.
Guest Performers Many professional and exceptional performers have given performances and worked with students at LINCS Elementary. These include musicians from India,Mexico, Belarus, Paraguay, Russia, and Japan, an African drumming group from Milwaukee, the UW-Whitewater faculty brass quintet, the UW-W Horn Ensemble, and instrumentalists on harp, violin, blues harmonica and saxophone, amongst others. These are always cherished moments for our children to feel a stronger connection with and understanding for other cultures. They are also exposed to many up-close quality musical performances.
Opera for the Young Due to the generosity of the LINCS FTP, the professional opera company from Madison, "Opera for the Young" has performed 4 times at Lincoln Elementary. The operas are adapted to a child's ability for enjoyment and feature an ensemble of Lincoln 4th grade students as the chorus, performing side by side with professional singers. Opera have included "Orpheus", "The Barber of Seville", "The Magic Flute", "The Elixer of Love", Dvorak's opera "Rusalka", "The Pirates of Penzance", "Hansel & Gretel" and this year's opera "Cinderella" on February 18 .
